Susan Ingrassia         Director

Susan Ina (Benson) Ingrassia began dancing at the age of 5 at the Hubbard Dance Studio under the direction of Pauline Hubbard Volmar in Morrel Park Maryland. She began classes in Ballet and Tap and later added Jazz and Pointe. Susan moved to study at Renee’s School of Dance at the age of 9 under the direction of Renee Rassa. There she was selected to perform in the Washington Ballet Companies’ production of “the Nutcracker” for two seasons. She was later asked by her former teacher Pauline Hubbard to perform for the boys at home at Fort Meade and Aberdeen Proving Grounds Recreation Halls. Susan performed in several shows each year between 1970 and 1973.

In 1973 she auditioned and landed a spot in the Wally Saunders Dance Company. She performed with the company for the next 9 years performing opening and closing seasons for the Jewish Community Center as well as several spots on WBAL TV. The Company also performed for 13 City schools for Arts Awareness. During this time she spent summers studying in New York City with Dance Educators Of America and then at Western Kentucky University. There she earned her Masters Degree in Ballet and Musical Theatre Arts.

From 1972 to 1982 Susan spent the Fall, Winter, and Spring seasons teaching Ballet Tap and Jazz for three local Recreation Centers where she produced and directed some 25 dance recitals.

In 1982 she finally decided to go out on her own. She subleased a one room studio under the name of S.B.C. Dance Studio. After four years and a move to a larger location, it became The Susan Ina Dance Studio Inc. That same year she gave birth to her son Nicholas. Her son has proven himself to be very artistic and produced several very colorful program covers for the studio performances.

Susan has taught and inspired many young dancers who have gone on to careers in Dance, Film, and Theatre.
